Within a parameter of one mile radius from Chapman University exists the epicenter for desegregation across the United States.
Led by Professor of Chapman University, Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, this walking tour will showcase historical landmarks within the Cypress Street Barrio Neighborhood such as the Cypress St. School House (all Mexican School House), the Lydia D. Killefer School (first integrated school in the US), the Sunkist Packing House (history/herstory of labor), Emiglio Vasquez mural (Godfather of Chicano/a art), and the stories/ narratives of individuals living within this context that still exist within Orange County. The tour will also cover the local landmark case Mendez et. al vs. Westminster, desegregation histories and legacies that exist here in OC.
* Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water, and be ready for a walk that's a little over 1 mile.
