I am a representative of Honor Flight Columbus and was wondering if your "Thunder on the River" Event would have a space for Honor Flight Columbus. Honor Flight takes our senior veterans on a one-day trip to Washington, DC to visit their memorials at no costs to them. Honor Flight operates on donations from individuals, corporations, and other organizations with no government funding! We are seeking veterans from 40 counties that Columbus is responsible for, which includes Lawrence County. In order to be eligible for the flight (from John Glenn International Airport in Columbus), the veteran must be at least 65 years old and serve at least one day active duty not counting basic or specialized training, or 65 and older with 20+ years in the National Guard or Reserves. We have ten flights this year and usually take 70-75 veterans on each flight.
What we are doing to locate veterans is setting up information tables at different events in order to spread the word about the free trip. We hand out applications and answer questions. This is done by our volunteers and although we may not be able to man an information table for more than one day, it would be helpful. We are not doing this for donations, but rather to disperse information.
If this sounds like something we could be involved in, please let me know. Also, if there would be a cost to having a booth/table please advise.
