First Day Hike, 1pm: Mayor Barzowski and his wife, Michelle, invite you to join them as they lead their traditional First Day Hike of the Free People of Ironton and Surrounding Counties.  This family community event is in it's 24th year and we're excited to get to include the new community trail this year.  The hike will be about 2.2 miles on gravel surface.  

This is your chance to be among the very first to walk, hike, or ride and experience these brand-new trails before they become everyone’s favorite go-to loop. Built by TrelCru, Inc., these trails mark a huge milestone as part of Phase Two of the Shepherd Mountain expansion.

Phase Two is made possible through funding from the Recreational Trails Program and the Local Tourism Asset Development Grant, with additional work continuing into Spring 2026 as the full vision comes together.

If you’ve ever said, “I wish I’d been there on day one,” — this is that moment.
