It’s that time of year again, folks! Your favorite brass musicians are returning to the grand steps of the Old Capitol Museum for one of Iowa City’s most beloved holiday traditions: Holiday Tubas!
The University of Iowa School of Music and the Pentacrest Museums invite you to bundle up, gather on the Pentacrest, and enjoy a set of classic holiday tunes that brighten even the chilliest winter day. After the performance, step inside the Old Capitol Museum to warm up with seasonal treats. Here’s everything you need to know:
TOY DONATION
As always, the ensemble will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Holiday Shop of the Iowa City Domestic Violence Intervention Program. Bring a toy and help spread some cheer!
TREATS
Following the performance, all are welcome inside the Old Capitol Museum for hot apple cider and cookies in the warm, historic heart of our community.
LET’S GET FESTIVE
Performers and attendees are encouraged to wear their most spirited holiday attire to make this year’s gathering extra colorful and joyful. Ugly sweaters, we’re looking at you!
PERFORMERS
The musicians include students from University of Iowa Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium John Manning’s studio, along with alumni, community members, and other brass enthusiasts.
OPEN CALL: Anyone with a tuba, sousaphone, or euphonium is invited to join!
Rehearsals are optional, and those interested in playing may meet inside the Old Capitol at noon; the performance runs 12:30–1:00 p.m. To get involved or learn about rehearsal opportunities, contact John Manning (
