- **Event Description**: First Round, a Downtown District staple, is a monthly networking event that gives locals the opportunity to meet new people, socialize, and learn about what’s happening across Iowa City’s arts, business, and culture sectors. 

To continue building upon the structure of this event, we are pleased to partner with the University of Iowa Office of Innovation on our 2026 First Round series. Every other month, a University of Iowa professor will share their work in a downtown venue, giving attendees the chance to connect directly with the people behind the research and education shaping our region.

Join us on Wednesday, April 15 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at ReUnion Brewery, in the heart of the Pedestrian Mall. Professor Daniel Matheson, Director of the Sport & Recreation Management program, will take us inside the rapidly changing world of NIL: what it is, how it works, and what it means for college athletes, universities, and the future of college sports.  

This month, your first round is free thanks to the University of Iowa Office of Innovation. Cheers!
