Her fiction, always inspired by historical events or wild landscapes, is widely studied in schools. Her recent books include To War with Wallace, about a boy caught up in the Wars of Scottish Independence, as well as the Victorian STEM adventure Rivet Boy and the Jacobite novel The Reluctant Rebel. Based in Inverness, with some of Scotland's most dramatic landscape on her doorstep, Barbara splits her time between writing and teaching Drama - but spreading the story-love in schools is what she loves best – her interactive events regularly take her across the country, and sometimes beyond.
