Hello Baton Rouge Audubon members and friends!
Our December 10 program will be part holiday potluck, part journey down under! Join us starting at 6pm at Hilltop Arboretum in Baton Rouge (11855 Highland Rd) for a potluck dinner. Please bring a dish to share. Suggestion: if your last name starts with A-H, bring an savory dish. If your name starts with I-P, bring a side dish, salad or veggie, and if your name starts with Q-Z, bring a dessert. If you want to get into the theme of the night, bring something Australian! For planning purposes, we expect 30-50 people. Fine to bring a guest!
Instead of a gift exchange, this year's gathering will feature a program by Katherine Gividen and Jane Patterson about their birding trip to Australia in fall of 2023. This was a 3 week guided tour that covered much of the eastern side of Australia from the Great Barrier Reef, through the rainforests and a touch of the famous Outback, all the way to Tasmania. Experience the diverse landscapes, incredible and unusual bird and wildlife species encountered along the way, including the elusive Southern Cassowary, the odd Duck-billed Platypus, and many others. The program will also feature several tasty treats from the land down under, including Vegemite and other things to try!
Parking at Hilltop is always a bit crowded. Please carpool if you can. If the parking lot is full, you can park on the street in the neighboring Oak Hills neighborhood and walk in. If you know someone who doesn't drive at night, maybe offer a ride!
