There are no eligibility requirements for this free clinic, but they are asking that people RSVP by following this link: https://https://www.https://www.likenknowledge.org/event-details/will-clinic-martin-county-2026 Participants will be able to sit down with a lawyer and collaboratively write a simple will for free. This event aims to make estate planning more accessible to Eastern Kentucky residents, regardless of their financial situation. This effort is part of LiKEN’s broader mission to resolve and prevent future property disputes that arise from a lack of estate planning.

In addition to writing a last will and testament, participants will be able to speak with representatives of LiKEN to learn more about heirs’ property and the Appalachian Heirs’ Property Coalition, their free heirs’ property assistance program. Heirs' property is land that is owned by multiple people who have inherited it from a deceased relative. When a property owner dies without a will or with a will that deeds their property to all of their children without dividing the property, each heir inherits an undivided interest in the property, and the title to the property becomes "clouded." Participants in the Appalachian Heirs’ Property Center would work with a LiKEN employee to organize their family members and the necessary legal documents for clearing up title issues related to heirs’ property.
