Located in Indian River, Michigan, this is home to the tallest vertical crucifix in the world. This pilgrimage is intended to be a family event open to all ages from infants in strollers and anyone able to walk at a steady moderate pace. This is a totally flat stroller-friendly trail that was formed from a retired railway. There are no soft spots in the trail as this is a firm, non-paved, but well-packed rail bed.Pilgrimage time and location:The pilgrimage route is 11 miles from the official start in Wolverine. It will begin at Sturgeon River Campground in Wolverine with Holy Mass at 9:00 am on Saturday July 18, 2025.Pilgrimage Theme:The theme of this year’s Indian River Pilgrimage is remembering the roots of the Society of Saint Pius X. The Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and many courageous priests heard God's call and boldly proclaimed the truth when no one else would. Many men and women also heard the call and sought the truth, finding peace in the faith of their fathers. Our principal intention in walking and praying during this year’s event will be to strengthen spiritual and familial fathers in their duties and fidelity to God’s Will.Registration:All registration is being handled through Eventbrite, the link for which can be found at stjosephs-priory.com. This year includes an early bird registration which will run from now until Saturday July 5th. These tickets will cost $10 per person with a maximum cost per family of $30. Late Registration will be available online up until the start of the Pilgrimage on Saturday July 18th and will add $5 to the cost of the early bird.Additional donations may be made at the Eventbrite site or the collection that will be taken at the Saturday morning Mass collection. The money collected helps to offset the costs associated with the pilgrimage and will go towards improvements in the years to come.What we provide:Along with shuttle transportation you will be provided with the pilgrimage booklet. We will also have a trailing vehicle that will be meeting us at various checkpoints with portable toilets, snacks & bottled water.Things to bring the day of:Comfortable walking shoes that are broken in, a change of socks, sunscreen, hat, rosary, poncho (in case it rains,) missal, reasonable amount of water, as well as your own snacks and a lunch. Please avoid extra items that will just weigh you down.Arrival, Friday, July 17thCamping the night prior is located at the:Sturgeon RiverCampground 5564 Cedar St, Wolverine, MI 49799Please make your own reservations if you will be staying here by calling or texting:Ralph at (231) 420-0808.The $25 fee can be payed by cash/check at the campground dropbox.Please do not be confused with the other campground with a similar name (Sturgeon Valley Campground).Saturday, July 18thSchedule for Saturday: The pilgrimage will start in Wolverine at the Sturgeon River Campground pavilion. There will be a shuttle service for drivers of vehicles (one per car as we have a limited number of shuttle transporters). You will need to arrive on Saturday between 7:15 - 8:15am to drop off your party at the campground. The driver will then need to go to Cross in the Woods Shrine located at 7078 M-68 in Indian River; right across the street is an overflow parking lot that is part of the shrine. Just drive to the rear part of the lot where you as the driver will be directed to park. (See attached picture for reference) The shuttle will then take you back to the official starting point in Wolverine.Shuttle Schedule:7:30 - 8:30am the shuttle departs the end of pilgrimage partking lot every 15 minutes or until full capacity which comes first. The last shuttle leaves at 8:30am. If you are running late please contact the coordinator.The morning will begin with Mass at 9:00 am under the pavilion at Sturgeon River Campground. Following Mass, pilgrims may take breakfast and make last minute preparations from 9:45-10:10 am. Please keep this breakfast on the lighter side as our lunch stop is not that far away from the starting point. We will start with the pilgrims blessing at 10:15 am sharp. The first group will depart at 10:30am. If you miss the 10:30 am start, please call or text (if safe to do so) the coordinator with your name, number of people in group and parish association. This will help get you to the right meeting point to join the pilgrimage in progress. After a stop for lunch the pilgrims will resume the route and arrive at the shrine around 3:45-4:00 pm.
