- **Event Description**: Well here we go, paddling in winter 2026.  So where do you go when the freezing temps and howling winter wind move in?  Head north, of course!!!
Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge is three hours NW of DFW.  It has beautiful views from Lake Lawtonka, where we’ll paddle our way from Robinson Landing west to Medicine Creek and enjoy awesome views of Mt. Sheridan along the way.  From there we’ll backtrack and head out to the island with Mt. Scott watching over us.  There we’ll warm up with lunch and warm beverages before heading back.  Hopefully we’ll have time to hike The Narrows Trail or 40 Foot Hole Trail before making our way back to Doris Campground and our warm campfire!
Getting campsites should not be an issue this time of year.  Expect temps ranging from highs in the mid 50s to lows in the low 30s.  Pack that zero degree sleeping bag just in case!
