Students will create 12 to 14-inch sculptural forms using hand-built and/or thrown bases. Inspired by the theme of fantasy, we’ll explore rich textures to craft unique “spirit houses.” These sculptures can take on human or animal forms, allowing for personal expression and creativity. No prior clay experience is needed—just bring your imagination and a willingness to play. Let’s make something fun and meaningful together!

At heart David is purely Northwest. Raised on the lovely Long Beach Peninsula, David prefers to write about his beloved homeland.David has recently published Black Wing, a saga that takes place in the deep wilderness of Haisla country in British Columbia. The novel received fine reviews from Kirkus and Good Reads and sells locally or through Amazon. He writes for the Daily Astorian, The Chinook Observer and is currently drafting a second novel called Crow Boy. A poetry collaboration with Jim Tweedie called Sidekicks was published in 2022. Most noteworthy David is a potter of fifty years. Mentored by Toshiko Takaezu and Ken Shores, he strives for expression in his clay. Often, he calls his quest, “finding Zen,” as if clay has a hidden expression, one just waiting to step forward. David is a proud participant in the Astoria Dragon kiln, or the Astoria Anagama Kiln. The community is tight and prides itself on due diligence and the magic of flame. David and his wife Laurie owned and ran the Shelburne Inn in Seaview for 42 years. He is also a chef.
