The Purple Room: Evening of music & the spoken word

MUSIC: The Fishing for Compliments Duo forms the root of Huddersfield’s four-piece indie-folk band, described as specialising in catchy, hook-laden folk/pop songs. The band's heart formed in 2011 around lead singer-songwriter Eileen's songs which are characterised by intriguing, personal lyrics and they have been bringing their unique sounds to an array of live music venues, pubs & festivals across the North of England and beyond for over a decade. The band and duo alike also enjoy integrating their own quirky take on covers of songs they love and that blend well with their own upbeat, uplifting, indie-folk-pop vibe.
SPOKEN WORD: Faye Marshall is a poet and spoken word artist who founded the Cloth and Coal poetry community in south Leeds. Faye has hosted creative workshops and panels in the UK, Europe, the Americas and South East Asia.
Her poetry has been published in several anthologies, and her debut pamphlet, Throwing Sugar on the Fire, was published by Yaffle Press in May 2025.
