Please join Idyllwild Arts for this collaborative performance produced by the InterArts, Creative Writing, and Dramatic Arts departments! The works are entirely written, directed, and performed by students.
The Playwriting class, taught by Abbie Bosworth, has a wide array of student experience, and they use this opportunity to share their wisdom, culture, and advice. Playwriting students partner with the Directing class, led by Jeanette Knight, and actors from all majors audition for the roles.
These performances will be judged by Abbie Bosworth, Jeanette Knight, and Denis Stryjewsky to decide which plays will move on to be semi-produced in January.
This year’s featured performances are:
Titus Skatedronicus – Sophia Lumen and Zoe Lazar | English Majors strung out to their last nerves cramming for their final exams act out the drama of the 2022 Winter Olympics Figure Skating doping scandal.
Your Problematic Fave – Silas Potma and Elton Collins | Breakout coquette Americana dream-pop singer of the year, Eugenia Abel, tries to reconcile the questionable morals of her starstruck boyfriend and maintain her balance as she has the red carpet of cancel culture pulled out from under her.
Fire Ash Ember Smoke – Kye Nolan and Camila Huijsmans | Following the unexpected death of Bodhi, beloved founder of a young theatre company, the remaining ensemble gather around a campfire to remember their last encounters. Their separate stories reveal a range of relationships and ambiguities.
Hot Mic – Kaylinn Lee and Emily Rothman | Podcast co hosts’ tempestuous relationship threatens to explode outside and inside of the recording studio.
Soccer Moms – Greta Heinike and Bel Zollman | In the bleachers of the local pitch, two soccer moms clash violently in the cutthroat arena of first grade girls soccer.
Peership – Mara Vahanian and MJ Quintana | Cara struggles to make herself heard in the midst of work mayhem, a relationship breakup, and nosy bystanders.
In Every Life – Tobi Lennertz and Lux Plischke | Two true lovers’ souls are divided and united across time.
The Invitation – Lucas Macedo and Valentina Sierra Orea | In a garden sublime enough to feature in a magazine, two old frienemies chew through past bitternesses and fondnesses alongside dainty cakes and fragrant tea.
Malice – Jordyn Huo and Justina Li | A High school friends’ reunion in a shadowy castle is tainted by supernatural and psychopathic revelations.
Impossible Crime – Yuu Kim and Gloria Wu | Forensic detectives trace blurred lines between death and life; guilt and innocence; murderer and victim.
Coordinates – Aya’an Muhammad and Alena Markushina | Olivia and Emma stumble through the forest in the dark. Will they be able to make it back to base camp alive, and will they be able to forgive each other for past betrayals?
