Event Description
Join us in historic Idlewild, Michigan for the 12th annual Idlewild Juneteenth Festival, a day of celebration, education, and cultural pride honoring the legacy and contributions of Foundational Black Americans.
Juneteenth commemorates the end of legalized slavery in the United States and celebrates the perseverance, creativity, and nation-building legacy of Black Americans. Idlewild — once known as the “Black Eden” — has long served as a place of restoration, entrepreneurship, and cultural excellence.
This year’s theme highlights the role Black Americans have played in shaping American culture, education, business, faith communities, and the arts.
Expect a vibrant day filled with community connection, youth engagement, live entertainment, heritage education, and opportunities to support Black-owned businesses.
Schedule of Events
11:30 AM – Juneteenth Freedom Parade
Procession celebrating Black history, culture, and future generations
Youth participants will represent professions, legacy leaders, and community pride.
12:00 PM – 5:00 PM Festival on Williams Island
• Live Music & Entertainment
• Cultural presentations
• Youth activities & educational displays
• Vendors & community organizations
• Heritage exhibits
• Food & local business participation
• Honoring community elders and legacy builders
7:00 PM – Evening Comedy Show
Location: Mid Michigan Building
An evening of fellowship and laughter to close the day’s celebration.

Additional Weekend Activities

Friday - Open Plenary Reception: Idlewild African American Chamber of Commerce. 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Saturday - Parade and Festival. Located on Williams Island, Parade will march down N Lake Drive.  11:30 am - 4:00 pm

Sunday Community Worship Service
Hosted in partnership with local Idlewild area churches
Location: First Baptist Church of Woodland Park
Community Conversation & Closing Gathering
Focused on the future of Black American heritage preservation in Idlewild and Woodland Park. Time TBA
