An Evening of Film & Dialogue: Gone Guys at Lamoille Union
The Lamoille Restorative Center, in partnership with Lamoille North Supervisory Union (LNSU), invites community members to an important evening of film and dialogue featuring the award-winning Vermont documentary Gone Guys.
The event will take place on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Lamoille Union Auditorium, and will include a screening of the documentary, followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.
Gone Guys is a 45-minute documentary rooted in rural Vermont that explores a growing issue impacting communities across the state and the country: the increasing isolation, disengagement, and disconnection of boys and young men. The film weaves together personal stories, national research, and compelling animation to help audiences better understand how this crisis has emerged—and what can be done to address it.
Since its premiere, Gone Guys has sparked meaningful conversations across Vermont and beyond, drawing strong turnout at community screenings and earning recognition, including Best Documentary Feature at the Vermont Film Festival and the Jonathan Daniels Award at the Monadnock International Film Festival.
The film is the culmination of years of effort by Vermont-based director and producer Levi Miller and an extended team of educators, researchers, families, and youth advocates. Together, they sought to shine a light on an issue that is often “hidden in plain sight,” while offering hope and pathways forward for communities. Rather than focusing on blame or simple answers, Gone Guys encourages collective responsibility, compassion, and action—inviting viewers to recognize they are not alone, and that meaningful solutions are possible when communities work together.
This community screening is co-hosted by the Lamoille Restorative Center and Lamoille North Supervisory Union, and is made possible by the Richard E. & Deborah L. Tarrant Foundation, whose support helped bring the film to life, and the Vermont Community Foundation, which has expanded access for screenings and community dialogue like the one being hosted in Hyde Park.
Why Now — and Why Here
Across the Lamoille Valley and throughout rural Vermont, families, schools, and community organizations are increasingly recognizing the challenges many boys and young men face—whether they manifest as withdrawal, disengagement from school, difficulty forming supportive peer relationships, increased anxiety, or struggles to find belonging and purpose. Educators, caregivers, and youth-serving professionals in our region are working hard to support students navigating a rapidly changing world shaped by social pressures, technology, mental health challenges, and economic uncertainty.
At the same time, it’s important to be clear about what this conversation is—and what it is not. All people are important, but this conversation focuses specifically on boys and men.
Supporting boys and young men is part of building healthier schools, stronger relationships, and safer communities for everyone. When young people feel connected, supported, and valued, the benefits extend across families, classrooms, and communities—helping reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and strengthen belonging for all students.
This screening is an opportunity to come together as a region—not just to watch a film, but to engage in a meaningful conversation about how we can strengthen protective factors for young people, build connection, and ensure that boys and young men in our communities have access to the support, mentorship, and relationships they need to thrive.
The conversation is timely, local, and urgent—because this is not happening somewhere else. It is happening here, and we face it best when we face it together.
