Though they left us in the same year, their legacies continue to shine brightly in everything we do, especially in the heart of the rodeo community they loved so deeply.Ellie Coyne — A Heart of CompassionEllie, mother to Erin and cherished grandmother to Quenton and Oakley, was one of the kindest, most giving people you could ever meet. A specialist in palliative care, Ellie dedicated her life to comforting others in their hardest moments — always knowing exactly what someone needed, whether a kind word, a warm hug, or just her quiet presence. Ellie never missed a rodeo. Even if she had never met you, she was your biggest fan. She made everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.Tragically, in June of 2016, while celebrating the birth of her second grandchild, Oakley, Ellie’s life was cut short when Erin’s car was struck by a drunk driver. It was a heartbreaking moment in our lives, but we are endlessly grateful that Erin and baby Oakley survived.Herbert “Buck” — Founder of True Grit RodeoBuck, the beloved father of Daniel and proud grandfather of Quenton and Oakley, was the spirit behind True Grit Rodeo. He bravely battled cancer for eight long years, passing away shortly after his birthday in March 2016. Buck was the life of every gathering — always up for a good time, always cheering the loudest at the chutes. He wanted to see every bull buck, every cowboy ride, and every barrel racer race. His love for rodeo was only surpassed by his love for family and friends. He was, and always will be, the ultimate cheerleader of our rodeo family.Today and always, we honor Ellie and Buck.They were — and forever will be — our biggest fans, the beating heart behind our rodeo family.
