- **Event Description**: Learn how to conserve, rehouse, and digitise personal historical objects in this interactive workshop.About this EventLearn how our team conserves and protects our collection and get real practical advice on how to care for historical objects in your own collection, be it personal photos and documents, or an institutional archive.Responding to feedback we received from our The Conservator Is In drop-in session at Hurstville in April, the purpose of this program is to provide education and hands-on experience in preservation and conservation.Visitors are encouraged to bring a small selection of items from their own collection and questions about what they want to learn. Please limit these items to photographs or photo albums, slides, negatives, paper documents, books or VHS, DVDs and cassette tapes.Staff will answer basic questions about object care, condition and provide general conservation advice. In addition staff can help visitors understand their collections’ needs and discuss general collection‑care considerations.The session will feature basic conservation techniques and strategies as well as methods of preservation. We will also discuss digitization using the library’s new digitisation station, demonstrating how VHS, DVD and cassette recordings can be converted into digital files and how to use our flatbed scanner to preserve 2D items such as photos and documents.Age: 16 +Cost: FreeExperience and Equipment: No experience required and all equipment for demonstration provided.
