- **Event Description**: Here is what the series for the month of April is about: while the Kingdom Christ reigns is not always precisely referred to as David's kingdom, it is certainly implied plenty and even expressed in those words in Mark 11:9-10 at the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, “And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord: blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.”  So, let’s get a fuller understanding of the nature of this kingdom as it relates to the greater and fuller “Kingdom of God."

4/5 - This Easter sermon is the first of 4 sermons in this series and is entitled Promises to Patriarchs.  The sermon is taken primarily from Genesis 17.  While it’s not likely that the patriarchs had much if any understanding of exactly how or when God was going to turn their family into a kingdom, much less His kingdom, they certainly did receive clear promises that we can in retrospect interpret with perfect precision and clarity to be prophecies about the Kingdom of David.  And ultimately, Jesus is that Son of David who completely fulfills all of those great revelations.  Most importantly, it is the resurrection of Jesus that validates all those many promises that were made to the patriarchs and makes their fulfillment not only possible, but assured.

4/12 - Map and Mission (Genesis 15): God made a land covenant with Abraham that only came close to being fulfilled during the time of David and Solomon.  Ultimately, it will only be realized when Christ Himself rules on earth.  What land does belong to the Jews, and what was the real mission God had for David, His descendants, and the nation at large?

4/19 - The Nature of Israel (Romans 9): Who is the Israel of God?  From the changing of Jacob’s name to Israel, to the distilling of Israel into the single person of Christ on the cross, all the way to the differentiation between the ethnic/national group from the spiritual remnant - we need to grasp the significance of belonging to this kingdom of Israel over which the Son of David is said to reign.  Can we satisfy the injunction to bless Israel just by praying for the peace of the physical city of Jerusalem and by providing economic and political support for the modern state of Israel, or is there more to it than that?  There is more for sure!

4/26 - Root & Offspring (Revelation 22): There are many similar statements about Christ in the Scripture: Root and Offspring of David, Alpha and Omega, Beginning and Ending, First & Last, The One who was, is, and is to come… even Jesus statement, “Before Abraham was, I am.” — all of these carry (at least in part) the same significance.  Jesus kicked this whole thing off, and He will be the one to shut it down.  He who is the Author and Finisher of our faith once brought David from caring for the sheep to ruling over His people, and He did it for the expressed purpose of setting things in motion for His own entry into that very line that He started openly and publicly with David.
