December's Sermon Series is entitled "Nirvana Now"
12/7 - Original Peace from Genesis 2… What must it have been like before the fall of humanity?! And of course, oh how foolishly and frivolously the peace of that era was squandered! Consider Solomon’s commentary on it as found in Ecclesiastes 7:29 - “Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.” Perhaps Solomon’s statement was only a microcosm of the grand view, but it certainly strikes the right chord! The age of innocence is hard—if not impossible—for us to fully imagine or fathom. Yet, meditations on it are valuable as we are forced to grapple with the wisdom and nature of God, as well as with our own longing for such a state of absolute peace.
12/14 - Peace with God & the Peace of God from Ephesians 2… the peace we feel is a result of the real peace we have with God through Christ, who is our peace. Added to this and as evidence of this, there is peace between the Jew and the Gentile… if both are in Christ.
12/21 - Peace with our Siblings from 1st Thessalonians 5, specifically verse 13, “…be at peace among yourselves…” So, this sermon is about keeping peace in the church. Also we may be looking at 1st Peter 3:8-12 & Luke 2:13-14.
12/28 - Peace with our Enemies from 1st Timothy 2… and also Proverbs 16:7, "When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." We are to be peacemakers in a peace-less world. Being obtuse and purposely antagonistic and abrasive in our approach is generally counterproductive.
