October’s sermon series: "Know Your Stuff" is about the sovereignty of God as seen in a holistic view of soteriology, that is the doctrine of salvation. Some churches hyper-focus on these topics, especially the heart of this series; other churches basically ignore these topics altogether because they are too hard to grapple with, or too unpopular. However, these are topics that are undeniably covered in the Bible, so it is imperative that we explore them.
10/5 - Someone has to Pay for That (Atonement) - Isaiah 53… in the simplest terms, God’s holy justice must be satisfied and the penalty for sin must be payed. So, this sermon will be about penal substitutionary atonement; why Christ died and why He died the way He died.
10/12 - God is the Only Voter (Election) Ephesians 1… if we are to take the Bible at face value then we must conclude that the plan and the extent of redemption was determined and decreed by God before creation, hence He was the only one around on THE great Election Day. The point of this message is likely to simply be the clear truth that without God taking the initiative nobody would be saved. He get’s all the credit.
10/19 - Where are We Going? (Predestination) Romans 8… while some convolute the doctrine of election and predestination, they are unique concepts. Particularly, predestination refers to the full sanctification that is guaranteed to every child of God. God has begun a good work in you, and He will be faithful to complete it.
10/26 - You’re Not Saved Yet (Glorification) 2nd Corinthians 3… even though our destiny is set in stone, we don’t yet see just how wonderful and marvelous that destiny is. The glory of God is our future. We will see His glory, but we will also be changed until we reflect that same glory. The beauty and splendor of heaven and of the full revelation of God there is our inheritance; our future; our eternal reward and condition.
