Participants will learn the history and cultural significance of sound healing, various instrumentation that can be used, and how it can be developed into a robust program that meets the needs of the individuals and communities served.Sound Healing in Clinical Practice, A Music Therapy Perspective is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 5 credits. The Center For Discovery (P-423) maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria.COURSE OBJECTIVESExplain a basic understanding of the use of sound healing in music therapy. (CBMT Domain 5A-4; Tasks 51 &amp; 53)Identify the different instruments used in sound healing, their uses, and their cultural significance. (CBMT Domain 5B-2; Task 57 | CBMT Domain 2D-6; Task 30)Develop ideas in which sound healing can be used to support different program objectives. (CBMT Domain 3A-7; Tasks 36, 38, &amp; 39)Define clinical intention in its role within sound healing. (CBMT Domain 3A - 7; Task 31, 32, &amp; 36)TRAINING STAFFRebecca Erson, MS, MT-BC (she/her) received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 2002. Prior to joining The Center for Discovery® in 2007, Rebecca worked in Arizona providing in-home music therapy services. In addition to earning her master’s degree in music therapy from SUNY New Paltz, Rebecca has received extensive training in the therapeutic use of sound and vibration and is certified in sound healing through the Sage Academy of Sound Energy. Rebecca currently oversees the Sound Healing Program at The Center for Discovery®.Meghan Smith, MA, MT-BC (she/her) has worked at The Center for Discovery® since 2021. She received her bachelor’s degree in music therapy from Temple University in 2018 and completed her music therapy internship at The Center for Discovery®. Meghan went on to earn her master’s degree in music therapy from Montclair State University and has completed additional training in Neurologic Music Therapy. She previously served on the Executive Board of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Music Therapy Association as Student Affairs Advisor.Kenneth Farinelli, MT-BC (he/him) is a music therapist at The Center for Discovery® in Harris, NY. At the Center, Kenny works primarily with adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other complex conditions.
