Come join us for this free, open to the public, and family friendly event! Wicker Man 2026 will take place IN THE FIELD starting at 4:00pm. The main event starts at 6:00pm sharp under the water tower with an official welcome, the lighting of the torches, and to carry the ceremonial box down to the effigy in a procession accompanied by drums. The box will be placed inside the effigy and set alight, the highlight of the event, and is followed by drumming and dancing. The meadery will be open until 10pm for those who would like to celebrate after the burn.
THE CEREMONIAL BOX: the heart and purpose of Wicker Man. The box will be located inside Niflheim (in the Longhouse, Railroad Room 7) starting in March along with paper and pencils. Write down anything you'd like to release (grief, loss, worry, guilt, shame, emotions, etc) on the paper and drop it into the box. The burning of this box during Wicker Man signifies the release of those burdens as a community, a step towards your personal healing.
On burn day, the box is moved to the field at 3pm. You do not need to be present for the actual burn if you do not wish to participate in that.
THE EFFIGY: Wicker Man 2026's effigy will be a horse. The effigy will be complete the Wednesday before the burn and will open for receiving visitors until 6pm on burn day.
OFFERINGS: Many people want to bring offerings for a wide variety of reasons and intent. Offerings may be left at the effigy from Wednesday 4 November until 6pm on the day of the burn. No offerings may be thrown into the effigy as it burns, the fire gets too hot and we want our guests to be safe. Please ensure your offerings are burnable. Unfortunately we will need to remove anything that does not burn or could pose a danger when burned.
THE PROCESSION: The Wicker Man event is not for spectators, it is designed as an immersive personal experience for participants. The act of walking the ceremonial box containing our burdens down to the field as a community is an opportunity to reflect and process, to feel support from those walking alongside us, as well as to prepare for the release of what has been weighing us down. Many of our attendees immerse themselves by wearing ceremonial garb and/or face paint.
**IMPORTANT: We do not recommend going barefoot, because of possible debris and gravel on the field**
This event is inspired by historical Viking Age and Celtic ceremonial practices. This is not a religious ceremony. It is a community ceremony to honor aspects of nature and our ancestors, and to lighten the weight we are carrying.
We look forward to seeing everyone there!
