All members of the Marshall community, including alumni, community members, students, faculty and staff, are invited to volunteer their time and effort to support projects that enhance and beautify campus and surrounding communities. This year’s event will take place May 19–22.

Marshall University President Brad D. Smith said Community Cares Week continues to reflect the shared commitment and pride that define the Marshall community.

“Each year, Community Cares Week shows what’s possible when the Marshall family comes together with a shared purpose,” Smith said. “As we celebrate our fifth year, it’s inspiring to see the pride people take in giving back to a place that means so much to all of us.”

Over the first four years, volunteer participation grew significantly, with more than 1,000 individuals contributing over 3,400 service hours last year alone. Of those, hundreds served on Marshall’s campuses, while others participated in their hometowns through alumni networks. Staff members also played a key role in leading projects and supporting daily activities throughout the week.

Members of the public are invited and welcome to volunteer. Those who sign up will receive a T-shirt, enjoy a free lunch on the day they serve and be entered to win door prizes.

Not everyone can participate in person, but there are still opportunities to support the effort. Those unable to volunteer during Community Cares Week can contribute by purchasing items from the event’s Amazon wish list, including bottled water, sunscreen and grab-and-go snacks, helping fuel the work by volunteers across our communities.
