Juniata College will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its band program with a special Instrumental Music Concert on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the Rosenberger Auditorium, Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts. The event will feature performances by the Juniata College Symphonic Band, Orchestra, and Percussion Ensembles, along with returning band alumni and guest performers. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert will open with the Juniata Symphonic Band and alumni performing the Juniata College Alma Mater, followed by Gustav Holst’s A Festival Chime. For this selection, the band will be joined by the Juniata College Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. John Bukowski. The Symphonic Band will continue with Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance, a cornerstone of modern concert band literature. The program will also highlight Juniata’s vibrant percussion program through performances by one of its sub-groups, the Keyboard Percussion Choir, featuring Emma Witkamp, Akeem Davidson, Holden David, Jackson Sharpe, and MacKenzie Kissinger, performing Carol of the Bells, arranged by Latten. The first half will conclude with the Juniata College Orchestra performing selections from The Lord of the Rings, featuring young Huntingdon vocalist Timothy Canner.
Following intermission, the Orchestra and returning band alumni will unite for a stirring rendition of Amazing Grace, The String Orchestra will then perform the first movement of J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 (with Dr. Bukowski as harpsichordist), followed by popular highlights from Mamma Mia! featuring percussionists Jackson Sharpe and Ethan Dennis on drum set. The ensemble will also perform Bring Him Home from Les Misérables, with Sharpe on timpani, Holden David on percussion, and Dennis on piano. The concert will conclude with Reinhold Glière’s Russian Sailors Dance, arranged by Merle Isaac.
The performance will bring together current Juniata students, community musicians, and returning alumni, representing multiple generations of the college’s musical legacy. “This concert is both a celebration and a reunion,” said Dr. James Latten, director of instrumental music at Juniata College. “For ninety years, our bands have provided students and community members with opportunities for artistic expression, collaboration, and lifelong connection through music.”
Juniata College looks forward to another milestone in its musical heritage, as the institution prepares to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Orchestras at Juniata in 2028.
