Experience the dramatic peaks of the Western Fells on this classic Lakeland circuit, taking in Base Brown, Green Gable, Great Gable, (possibly Brandreth, and Grey Knotts). Starting from the scenic village of Seathwaite, this walk blends iconic summit experiences with breathtaking valley and ridge views.
The adventure begins with a steady climb to Base Brown (646m), offering immediate rewards in the form of commanding views over the deep valleys of Borrowdale. From here, we ascend the distinctive Green Gable (701m), where the ridge narrows and the scenery opens to the iconic Great Gable (899m) — one of the most celebrated summits in the Lake District, with panoramic vistas stretching across the Western and Southern Fells.
If time allow, we will continuing along the ridge, we traverse Brandreth (715m), a quieter fell with a sense of space and solitude, before reaching Grey Knotts (697m). Its rocky summit provides stunning views over the Buttermere valley and the surrounding Western Fells, a perfect spot to pause and take in the scenery.
The descent back to Seathwaite completes a rewarding day of high fells, dramatic ridges, and classic Lakeland landscapes.
