Participants will experience activities and field trip routes developed with local teachers and school districts while exploring how PERT uses the preserve as an outdoor classroom. The program will include bird activities and binocular instruction, examples of elementary, middle, and high school programs, and visits to areas used to teach about grasslands, forests, wildlife, watersheds, water quality, conservation, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship. We will also share examples of existing school partnerships and discuss ways schools can work with PERT through field trips, school-based projects, environmental clubs, and other outdoor learning opportunities. This event is also a great opportunity for retired educators and others interested in supporting PERT’s K–12 education programs. Information will be available about volunteer opportunities.
