- **Event Description**: The historic Hugh Torance House and Store is known as the oldest-standing store in NC and one of Mecklenburg County’s few surviving 18th-century structures. Come for a visit and step back in time to 1779 with a living history guided tour at 2:00 pm, which lasts about one hour. Come early and plan to stay after the tour to enjoy the store and the nature-filled site. The Hugh Torance House and Store is open to the public most Sundays from 1:00-4:00 pm.In addition to experiencing the history of the site, the Torance Store offers sundries, local goods like honey and lavender, locally made artisan crafts and gifts, historical books and toys, stationery and home decor, and much more! Guests are welcome to visit the store and grounds during open hours.There is no fee to reserve your living history tour tickets, but your generous donations are most welcome!The Hugh Torance House and Store is a federally recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit charity organization, and maintaining and growing our special historic site depends on community generosity. Please support our mission to preserve, restore, and share the Hugh Torance House and Store with a donation at checkout.The large brick home next door to the Hugh Torance House and Store is the National Register historic landmark known as Cedar Grove, the 1831Greek Revival home of James Torrance, the son of Hugh and Isabella Torance. This property is a private residence open for special HEARTS Happening events.The Hugh Torance House and Store is powered by HEARTS. Members of HEARTS care about our local history, nature, and/or the arts, and the more HEARTS grows, the more HEARTS can preserve, connect, and share the history around us. If you are not a member, please join today. Thanks to donations, HEARTS Circle members, the Town of Huntersville, and support from our local business partners, we are honored to continue sharing our local history and its connection to the great tapestry of history in the Catawba Valley Region!
