About The Artists -Brinsley Tyrrell- Brinsley Tyrrell is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans drawing, sculpture, architectural design, metalwork, and large-scale public commissions. Educated at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, University of London, he holds an Intermediate Degree in Fine Arts and a National Diploma in Design, focused on sculpture and terracotta. He is known for monumental public artworks, including Behind the Brain Plaza at Kent State University—a 250-foot retaining wall featuring over 3,000 life-sized cast concrete books and five sandstone carvings, including The Brain. His distinctions include the Cleveland Arts Prize for Lifetime Achievement, the Cleveland Museum of Art’s May Show Sculpture Award, and the Governor’s Award for the Arts in Ohio. Internationally, he represented England at Artists ’77, a United Nations-organized exhibition featuring two artists from each of 62 countries. “I think of myself as a sculptor. But over the years I have worked in many different materials, and the scale of my sculptures have varied from tabletop works to large commissioned public sculptures and environments whose context is relocated to their location and weavings. I am inspired by nature. The landscape I live in and my feelings and memories of that ever-changing landscape.” -Billy Ritter- Billy Ritter is a visual artist working in Cleveland, Ohio. Born in Ellwood City and raised in western Pennsylvania, he holds an MFA from Kent State University, a BFA from Slippery Rock University, and studied abroad at The Academy of Fine Art and Design (VŠVU Výročie) in Bratislava, Slovakia. For the past decade he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Art—Ceramics, Drawing, and Art Appreciation—at Cuyahoga Community College’s Western, Eastern, and Metro Campuses. Over the past 15 years he has taught ceramics classes and workshops at many Community Art Centers and institutions throughout Northeast Ohio. Billy exhibits and sells his work at his studio and at many markets and shows throughout Northern Ohio. Atmospheric firing, community, and storytelling through process are the core of his work. His limited editions of vessels and functional tablewares are utilized by chefs, home cooks, photo studios, and collectors both nationally and internationally. Deep Dive FYI: Billy met Brinsley during his graduate studies at Kent State University.
