Every drum birthing weekend is unique but a general outline of what you can expect is given below.
Your drum birthing weekend will be a time of ceremony and gratitude, working in sacred space and in nature, connecting to the Ash Tree and Spirit of Stag who have come together with you to create your drum.
We will labour together with laughter and joy, there may be tears too that need to be woven into this mirror of you. So we will dream into being this magical partner for the rest of your life, your own sacred spirit drum
To complete the bonding at the end of the weekend we will take you on a guided journey to meet the spirit of your drum and we will bless the drum in a sacred ceremony as you take the first steps on your new path together. (This may be an outdoor ceremony dependent on weather conditions)
All drums are made in the traditional way, using lacing cut from the same hide, thus keeping the spirit of the Stag within the drum, and within ceremony to honour the spirit of the Stag and the Ash Tree that gave of themselves to bring this sacred medicine tool into being. Your own drum is a guide, healer, teacher and friend that guides you on a special journey of inner exploration.
All our drums are made from ethicly sourced Stag/ Red Deer Hides and 16" Ash Hoops.
Spirit of Stag
In Celtic mythology, the stag holds a revered and powerful position, embodying various symbolic meanings and associations. The stag represents strength, virility, and nobility. It is often seen as a creature of the wilderness, embodying the untamed and primal forces of nature.
Stag is also closely linked to Cernunnos, the Horned God of Celtic mythology. Cernunnos himself is depicted with antlers, and is associated with fertility, abundance, and the cycle of life. His connection to the stag symbolises his dominion over the wild and his role as a guardian of the animal kingdom.
The stag and Cernunnos are intertwined, representing the sacred masculine energy, the vitality of the natural world, and the cyclical rhythms of existence. The stag's image serves as a reminder of the deep connection between humans and the wild, and the harmonious balance between humanity and the animal realm.
Spirit of Ash
In Celtic mythology, the ash tree is revered for its strength, wisdom, and connection to the Otherworld. It is often seen as a portal to the Otherworld, facilitating communication with the spiritual dimensions. The ash tree symbolizes balance and is associated with fire, masculinity, and rebirth. It is also linked to several Celtic deities and is considered one of the three sacred trees of the Druids, alongside the oak and hawthorn. The ash tree's deep roots and branches symbolize grounding and stability, respectively, and it is believed to have medicinal properties. The ash tree's significance extends to its role in the Celtic Tree of Life, representing the interconnectedness of all existence.
A 50% non-refundable deposit is needed as early as possible to secure your place and to allow us time to source and prepare the materials for the workshop. You also receive materials to create a drum beater for your new drum.
