A free event for police wellbeing professionals hosted by the Crime and Policing Research Centre

About this Event

Join us for a free, one-day event designed specifically for police professionals working in:


  • Occupational health teams 
  • Strategic wellbeing roles 
  • Counselling and support services 
  • Any policing role with an interest in officer welfare 

This event will showcase the latest evidence-based insights into police wellbeing, drawing on recent large-scale research and systematic reviews.


Programme

9:30-10:00am - Arrival, Registration and Refreshments

10:00-10:15am - Welcome and Opening Address

A warm introduction to the day, including a special guest speaker

10:30-11:00am - Opening panel discussion with Prof Emma Williams, Dr Sarah-Jane Lennie, Richard Harding, Dr Natalie Gorton, Rebecca Kinnear and more!

This session explores the importance of social science research in combatting the rise in issues of wellbeing in the police service

11:00am-12:00pm - Adopting Evidence-Based Interventions with Dr Kathryn Sharratt, Dr Ashley Cartwright, Dr Michelle Rogerson 

A comprehensive overview of the latest research into wellbeing interventions, including cost-effectiveness and practical application. Learn how to apply this evidence to enhance your force’s wellbeing strategies.

12:00-12:45pm - Networking Lunch

Enjoy lunch and connect with colleagues from across the country

12:45-13:30pm - Understanding Barriers to Support  with Caitlin Heywood & Prof Jason Roach

An exploration of recent research into barriers to accessing support services, followed by a practical discussion on how to influence engagement

13:30-14:00pm - Using Force-Level Data Effectively: an Introduction to the West Yorkshire Police Trama Tracker with Chief Inspector Tom Perry, Dr Ashley Cartwright & Dr Liam Curran

Discover how to harness internal data to evaluate and improve wellbeing strategies within your organisation

14:00-14:30pm - Don’t forget the bigger picture – personal life, families, and education  with Prof Emma Willaims, Dr Sarah Jane Lennie & Richard Harding

This session will be delivered by the Centre for Excellence in Equity for Uniformed Protective Services and will offer insights into some of the latest social science research and recommendations for dealing with non-organisational and operational issues that affect officers

15:00-16:00pm - Targeting Key Areas for Intervention with Ellie Hutchison, Laura Hulse, Rebecca Kinnear 

Explore how to design bespoke, preventative interventions using an evidence-based approach. This session includes insights into self-care and character strengths in UK policing

16:00-16:30pm - Closing Reflections & Discussion with Dr Ashley Cartwright

A chance to reflect on the day’s insights and discuss next steps


Refreshments will be available throughout the day, and lunch is provided.
