Deep in the misty forests of Karkloof lies one of the province’s most unusual and captivating waterfalls — Grey Mare’s Tail Falls.
This is not just a hike… it’s an experience.

The water drops 101 metres from open grasslands above, plunging over towering dolerite cliffs into the forest below. What makes this waterfall truly unique is its movement — it shifts along the cliff face, swaying from side to side like a horse’s tail. No matter where you stand, the mist finds you.

The trail winds through quiet forest paths, river crossings, and rocky terrain, ending beneath the falls where the air is cool, damp, and alive with sound.

• Distance: ±6km return
• Duration: ±3-4 hours

⚠️ Some serious rock scrambling near the base of the falls — slippery when wet and not suitable for beginners.
