- **Event Description**: Omer Jean Winborn learned about her family's connection to the Underground Railroad in Michigan using her DNA. In this presentation, she will share what she learned about the Underground Railroad and tell the stories of her ancestors who lived in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Detroit and Canada.

Omer Jean Winborn is a retired educator, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She is a trainer at Washtenaw Community College for the courses Introduction to Genealogy and Beginning African American Genealogy. She has been a family history researcher for over 30 years and is currently the President of the Fred Hart Williams Genealogical Society. She is also the founder and Co-Chair of the Washtenaw African American Genealogical Society and Trustee for the Ypsilanti District Library Board.
