- **Event Name**: Annual Heritage Day + Caboose Dedication
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 09 Aug, 2026 at 10:00 am – Sun, 09 Aug, 2026 at 04:00 pm
- **Event Description**: The public is invited to the annual Heritage Day fundraiser at Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village Sunday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- a celebration of traditional crafts and frontier ingenuity. In addition, we'll officially dedicate and open our newest exhibit: the caboose.

Throughout Heritage Day -- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to interact with traditional artisans such shoemaker Rich Watters and herbalist Sue Morris as they revive lost arts. Others such as Phil Ruth and Matt Maris will share the history of the Bald Eagle Valley Railroad and Bald Eagle and Spring Creek Navigation. Children can play Victorian games, hunt for slag and learn the art of string making hosted by the creative staff from Bald Eagle State Park.

Enjoy traditional Celtic music before rocking out to the sounds of Kidz at Heart on the mansion lawn.

Support the Scouting America Howard Troop 353 as they takeover the Carriage kitchen with summer foods for purchase.

Visitors will also be able to stroll through the restored herb garden with a Penn State Extension Master Gardener and tour the property with volunteer guides stationed at key locations to answer questions. Watch our short film on the history of Curtin Village before taking your self-guided tour.

We'll take a break at 1 p.m. for a caboose dedication with donors John & Joyce Gummo, a tribute to honor those who helped with the installation and local legend "King of the Hobos" Luther Gette.

While the caboose dedication is free, admission to the Heritage Day fundraiser is $5 per individual for all persons over the age of 10. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.

All proceeds benefit the preservation, interpretation and maintenance of Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village, a 501(c) 3 managed by volunteers through The Roland Curtin Foundation.

Eagle Iron Works was the Juniata Iron District’s longest and last operating charcoal-fired iron production and processing facility. With its many original and replicated structures, Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village is the only place in Pennsylvania where visitors can view all major components of a nineteenth century iron plantation.
