For many families, basic eye care is simply not affordable.That’s the reality inside these classrooms right now.?️ WHAT WE ARE DOINGOn January 24, Houston Millennials is joining forces with Rotary District 5890 and the Lions Club to host a large-scale, organized vision screening event at Southwest Public Schools.?️ Lions Club will conduct professional on-site vision screenings? Students who need further care will be identified?️ Follow-up optometrist exams will be handled through a voucher system? Families pay nothingThis is a focused pilot effort.Only students from this school will be served at this stage.Once the process is proven, we expand.? HOW THIS CAME TOGETHERThis effort began when Dr. James Troutman, a teacher at Southwest Public Schools, spoke up about what students were experiencing in the classroom and brought the concern forward. Through Ivan Sanchez with Houston Millennials, the issue was elevated to the Sharpstown Rotary Club, led by President Karen Blakeman, and then to Rotary District 5890 under District Governor Dr. Tom Kelchner.
