Mental Health First Aid for Military Members, Veterans, and their Families
Mental Health First Aid for Military Members, Veterans, and their Families training focuses on the unique experiences and needs of the military, veteran and their family population, including a myriad of social and behavioral health issues related to military service like mental illness, addiction, and the impact of military service the circle of family (significant other, children, parents, siblings, etc.) and friends. Training topics cover military culture and its relevance to the topic of mental health, specific risk factors faced by many service members and their families, such as trauma (both mental and physical), stress, and separation, and common mental health resources for service members, their families and those who support them. Attendees will also learn how to apply the ALGEE action plan in a number of scenarios designed specifically for service members, their families and those that support them. This training hopes to break down the stigma associated with mental illness, provide tools to reach out to those who suffer in silence, reluctant to seek help, and make mental health access and treatment accessible to those in need.
