Area School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) Convening

The Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention (NCDP) Division of Harris County Public Health (HCPH) invites your School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) to attend the first Area SHAC Convening.

Evidence shows that students’ health is linked to their academic achievement. Since students spend the majority of their time in schools, it is imperative that schools create a healthy and safe environment where children can establish lifelong healthy behaviors. SHACs have a unique opportunity to impact the health of students on campuses throughout each district. This convening is an opportunity to have SHACs in the area come together to learn more about SHAC best practices, strengthen area SHACs and increase the awareness of SHACs. Come join us and:

Learn how other school districts overcame challenges when starting out

Get exposed to new ways of structuring SHAC meetings

Find out what resources are available at the local and state level that will support your efforts.

Learn how to advocate for school health

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Up to 3 representatives from your SHAC, including one (1) parent.
