U.P. gardeners, ready to make the most of our short growing season? PSCG is launching a six class gardening series, made possible by a generous grant from the Keweenaw Community Foundation, that is designed specifically for the unique challenges of gardening in Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Each 2.5 hour session features a hands on, workshop style approach focused on practical skills such as starting seeds, preparing and improving soil, planning your garden layout, caring for plants throughout the season, and maximizing your harvest before the cold returns.
Classes will be held at the Carnegie Museum in Houghton and at PSCG on the following dates: March 18, April 15, May 13, June 3, June 24, and July 22 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Topics range from starting tomatoes and peppers, propagating herbs and flowers, growing squash and cucumbers, building raised beds, pruning tomatoes, and growing and storing onions and garlic.
Each class may be taken separately, so you can join us for just one or attend all six. All materials used during the workshops are included. Class size is capped at 16 participants, with additional applicants placed on a waitlist and contacted if space becomes available.
There is additional detailed information about each individual class on the registration form.
