- **Event Description**: Join us for a day of hedge planting alongside the River Mole.

The project is one example of SERT working collaboratively with landowners to safeguard communities downstream at risk of flooding by delivering a range of ‘slow the flow’ interventions in the Upper Mole catchment.

These techniques can also provide a multitude of other benefits such as improvements to biodiversity, water resources, water quality, carbon sequestration and reductions in soil erosion and associated losses.

Natural Flood Management (NFM) techniques involve protecting, restoring and mimicking natural processes, to slow down the flow of water or temporarily hold it back, resulting in less runoff and more water storage in the headwaters.

Example interventions include creating leaky woody dams within woodlands, building temporary ponds and scrapes or re-naturalising headwater areas.

What to bring: Sturdy boots or wellies, we will have work gloves but bring your own if you would prefer. Please bring a packed lunch and bottle of water. As this is a December event, please bring appropriate outdoor clothing for the task.

We will provide tea, coffee, biscuits and all the equipment needed.

No previous experience required.
