Please make sure ALL fields in the registration form are completed and that a confirmation email is received.Join Golden Eagle Audubon for a scenic hike in Garden Valley. The Schoolhouse Gulch Trail features Ponderosa Pine habitat that is popular with a higher-altitude species that we don't often see in the Treasure Valley. The trail passes through a wooded riparian area and across snag-covered hillsides that are home to a variety of woodpeckers, including Hairy, Lewis's , White-headed, and Pileated, along with Pygmy Nuthatches, Spotted Towhees, Western Bluebirds, Ruffed Grouse and more. Expect a hike of up to 3 miles with some elevation gain on a combination of single-track trails and dirt road. There is some shade near the creek, but the hillsides will be sunny. Please note, this trail is in the mountains and we may encounter wildlife.Recently reported species can be seen here: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L2276191Accessibility: This event is appropriate for those with visual impairment that are comfortable with moderate hiking on un-paved trails, but is not accessible for those with limited mobility.Birding Skill Level: All levels are welcome. Binoculars will be available if needed.Age: Participants younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and participants younger than 18 must have a parent/guardian sign the liability release. Participants under the age of 8 are discouraged due to the terrain.Time: 7:30am - 11:30am. Check-in is at 7:20am. Please arrive at check-in so we can start on time.: We will meet in the rear parking lot of the Valley View Chevron in Horseshoe Bend before heading up to Garden Valley. (Click on "Meeting Place" to get directions from your location.)This trip will be limited to 4 cars. Must be willing to carpool.What to Bring: Layers for weather, sun protection, closed-toe shoes, binoculars, water, lunch/snacks as needed.
