Now an outdoor activity centre, Stubbers was once a stately home with extensive parkland and gardens. Although the house is long gone, the lovely walled garden and rare crinkle-crankle wall remain and the site is a beautiful mix of woodland, open areas and lakes.
The walk starts at Parklands, just off Corbets Tey Road Upminster. After a brief look at Parklands we will walk by footpaths behind the crematorium and along the southern end of Cranham Marsh to reach Stubbers after two miles. We can use the toilets there. We will have a tour of Stubbers (entry is included in the walk price) including some of the history and a walk round some of the site – maximum a further two miles but can be shorter or omitted altogether depending upon time and how people feel. There will also be the opportunity to use Stubber’s café and other facilities. The walk will finish when we leave Stubbers; walkers will have the choice of getting the 370 bus (every 12 minutes) for the few stops back to Parklands or walking back with the leader by the same route.

We will meet at the small public car park at the west end of Parklands, which is accessed from Park Farm Road – postcode RM14 2EU. Alternatively, there is likely to be parking available in the side roads off Corbets Tey Road in which case then follow the walking route (below) from the bus stop. By public transport take the 370 bus (Romford – Hornchurch - Upminster station – Ockendon - Lakeside), alight at Parklands Avenue and walk into Parklands which is opposite the bus stop. Walk along the right hand side of the lake for 5 minutes to the car park at the far end.
There are no significant gradients, there is one small stile to cross on the footpath. The paths are generally good but can get slightly muddy in places after rain so stout footwear is recommended.

This walk is suitable for ages 16 years and over, cost £4 per person.
