- **Event Description**: Get the skills to support friends with mental health struggles at our in-person Youth Mental Health First Aid course!About this EventYou’re Invited to the Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification Course!Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for helping young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), and eating disorders.This certification course is taught by Angie Gerrard. She is licensed by the National Council for Mental Well-Being (Mentalhealthfirstaid.org).Details:``-2 hours of pre-coursework must be completed prior to attending the course.-Participant must attend the entire course in order to gain certification.-Course minimum participants is 5, maximum is 25.-All participants must be aged 18+.-Please bring your own lunch.-Please register before 6/10 to ensure your prework can be completed.-Covered by Faith Community Church; optional donation of $24 for Manual and Pre-Course Work
