In de jaren ’50 en ’60 realiseerde Johnny Cash zijn eigen ‘American Dream’. Hij werkte zich op van katoenplukkerszoon tot een superster met een eigen televisieshow. Hij was een echte verhalenverteller, maar met de waarheid nam hij het niet altijd zo nauw.
 
In The True Johnny Cash neemt Joost je mee in een aangrijpende voorstelling, waarin hij op boeiende en soms droogkomische wijze vertelt over de iconische zanger met het kenmerkende donkere stemgeluid. Botmans warme stem past perfect bij de liedjes van Cash. Gitarist Jos Kolenberg begeleidt Botman.
