Since its beginnings in 2011, The Highlife Band has been cultivating original reggae and world music that integrates influences from Jamaica, West Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil, and beyond.  

Seattle based Franco-American lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Daniel Miller weaves the sounds of various cultures of the African Diaspora into new songs with searing clear vocals, tight horn arrangements, and a pulsating rhythm section.  These serve as a vehicle for timeless messages of peace, love, and understanding, while delivered with a sense of immediacy and relevance for today’s listeners.  The band’s resonating live performances have quickly helped the group rise to prominence. 

 Based in Seattle, WA and having toured in France and the Western U.S. for the past decade, The Highlife Band’s energy onstage is infectious, with shows quickly turning into a dance party as the band engages with the audience.

Things to note:

There is no re-entry once you have arrived. There is a smoking area within the venue.

2. There is limited seating available, so if having a seat/table is important to you, we suggest arriving when the doors open at 5:30pm.

3. We still don’t allow dogs! Dogs are great, but it would be dog madness around here if we let them attend shows. We’d also really prefer if you didn’t leave them unattended in your vehicle either.

4. Outside alcohol is NOT ALLOWED! Violators will be 86’d and The Ruins will hire a stern nun to follow you around and chant “Shame!” at you and it will be really embarrassing trying to explain this at the grocery store or at work.

5. The parking lot does NOT belong to The Ruins. Yes, the actual owners of the parking lot (Mt Hood Railroad) expect you to pay to park. It’s usually about $4. It’s not our deal. We highly encourage people to walk, ride their bikes, or carpool. We have ample bike-rack space here as well.

6. Tail-gating is not allowed in the Mt Hood Railroad parking lot. They are implementing a “no open containers” policy for their entire lot. Please respect their wishes and help us to maintain a positive relationship with our community and neighbors.

7. We do rent out the Grotto Bar and/or the Indoor Bar during concerts, for birthdays, business receptions, etc. Email info@theruins.org for more information.

8. Ruins Tuesdays are May through August. For other non-Tuesday concerts, please see our website at www.theruins.org/music-calendar

9. Each Tuesday show all summer we’ve invited a “Featured Non-Profit” to be at the event, to fundraise and provide info.

10. All concerts (weather permitting) are in our outdoor venue, May through the end of September. All concerts are indoors October through April. In the event of rain in the summer season, we will move the show to the indoor venue.

11. This year our alternating food truck line-up will include: Col. Gorge Crepes, Apple Valley BBQ, Empanadas by Maria Elba, and Frosty Peak Ice Cream.

12. We are not hosting “Ruins Thursdays” this year, but WILL have a handful of Thursday concerts this summer.
