- **Event Description**: This is a beautiful, peaceful forest hike that is part of the Hawaii Na Ala Hele Trail System. This trail has lots of tree canopy and shade, as well as many small stream crossings. Sturdy footwear is recommended, especially after recent heavy rains, as the trail can get muddy and slippery. This trail offers a little bit of everything: rainforest, mild ridge views, streams, bamboo, etc. The Makiki Valley Loop is actually a combination of the Makiki Arboretum, Kanealole, Makiki Valley and Maunalaha Trails. We will be hiking them in this order, clockwise on a map.

CHALLENGES: Muddy and slippery trails, aerial roots, some steep sections with steps, but nothing that requires ropework.

Parking: There is a small unpaved parking lot where that trailhead begins. It is located outside the Arboretum gate on the left. Do not enter the gate. Parking lot closes at 7:00pm. If lot is full parking is available on the street. Don't leave valuables in your car.
