Cooked whole kalo sold for $5/lb, two sessions: 5pm for beginners and 6pm for Board and Stone alumniAbout this EventCome learn how to make your own poi! We will be hosting TWO classes. Beginners/first timers are welcome to attend at 5 pm to learn about kalo, it's different parts, and the process of pounding it into poi. Former Board and Stone participants who have completed the Board and Stone program are welcome to come at 6 pm.Papa and pōhaku ku'i 'ai (poi pounding board and stones) will be available to borrow. Cooked whole kalo will be sold at $5/pound.To reserve your spot 1). Everything you need to ku'i will be provided.Q: I have my own board and stone, may I bring it?A: Yes! Just let us know on the Eventbrite order form that you are bringing your own board and stone.Q: How much kalo am I allowed to purchase?A: 1-2 pounds is a good amount for beginners, in order to allow everyone to purchase please keep to the limit of 8 lb per 'ohana.Q: Will I be refunded if there are changes to my schedule and I cannot attend the event?A: Unfortunately, due to the time and work put into cooking the kalo, all sales are final. We will keep your kalo refrigerated at KOKA Kalihi if you are able to pick the kalo up during the week.Q: May I attend just to watch?A: Yes! Our programs serve parents and preschool age children, prenatal to 5 years old helping them to be prepared for kindergarten. In addition, we offer support services that enhance both existing and new keiki development programs. These specialized services include Native Hawaiian cultural enrichment activities, development of Hawaiian-based family literacy curriculum, and family wellness support.
