Haunting Images: Live Cinema by Lim Giong
A HKAFF pre-festival event co-presented by Kwang Hwa and M+
Event Partner: Hong Kong Asian Film Festival

About the performance
Lim Giong performs in a live cinema event that rethinks the relationship between sound and image, featuring live scoring along with the projection of moving image. Far from playing an inferior or secondary role, live scoring forms an evolving conversation between collaborators and their work, and between music makers and image makers. Lim’s performance in the context of a moving image exhibition activates an intervening space that allows audible and visible elements to influence each other, broadening the audience experience and creating a chemistry that cannot be rehearsed, and that can only take place live.

Haunting Images: Live Cinema by Lim Giong is a Taiwan Arts Festival production co-presented by M+, West Kowloon Cultural District, and Kwang Hwa Information Culture Center. It features moving image works selected from the M+ Collections, Michael Rogge’s short films Rain (1952) and Sunrise (1953), and New York–based artist Simon Liu’s 16mm dual-projection work Harbour City (2016). This collaborative live event with Lim Giong revisits Hong Kong’s and Taiwan’s urban environments of private and collective memory, offering a fresh reimagining of water and harbour, light and shadow, and movement and ritual.

About the artist
Lim Giong is a musician, singer, songwriter, DJ, and composer. Over his almost thirty-year career, he has worked with artists in different fields and has participated in various international music collaborations. He was recognised at the prestigious National Awards of Art in Taiwan in 2017. Currently, he works mainly on scores for documentaries and feature films.
