# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Dervish @ De la Luz Soundstage
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 06 Nov, 2026 at 07:00 pm (-05:00)
- **Event Description**: In the pubs of Sligo, on Ireland’s rugged northwest coast, traditional music has never been something preserved behind glass. It lives around tables and in crowded rooms, passed between musicians one tune at a time. It was in those sessions that Dervish first took shape in 1989, when a group of young musicians steeped in the traditions of Sligo and neighboring Leitrim began playing together. More than three decades later, that same deep connection to place remains at the heart of one of the most celebrated traditional Irish bands in the world.

Fronted by the extraordinary voice of Cathy Jordan, Dervish can move effortlessly from the intimacy of an old ballad to a torrent of fiddle, flute, accordion, bouzouki and bodhrán. Their musicianship is formidable, but what has made Dervish endure is something harder to measure: they understand where this music comes from. Over the years they have carried it from Sligo sessions to Glastonbury, the Great Wall of China and Rock in Rio, where they became the first Irish band to perform at the enormous festival, playing before an estimated 250,000 people. The BBC honored Dervish with a Lifetime Achievement Award and called them “an icon of Irish music,” recognition of a career spent bringing the music of Ireland around the world without sanding away the character that makes it Irish.

On November 6, Dervish brings that tradition to the intimate room at De la Luz Soundstage. For anyone who has spent years loving Irish music, this is a chance to hear one of its great contemporary standard-bearers at close range. And for those just finding their way into the tradition, Dervish offers a remarkable place to begin: songs carrying centuries of memory, tunes with enough momentum to lift a room, and six musicians who have spent a lifetime discovering how old music can feel completely alive in the present.
