Leona Wooten Harris is the author of Black Families: Visitors' Guide - Histories – Genealogies (Marshall County Mississippi Historical Memorabilia).First, stated Rev. Harris, the BLACK FAMILIES book is a brief guide to historical sites that many Marshall Countians/Mississippians know little about, and about sites that are usually not mentioned in conventional guidebooks relating to Marshall County.Although the book supplements, it does not replace those pamphlets, brochures, etc. that call attention to more familiar tourists’ areas. Secondly, Part 2 (two) is intended to supply brief sketches of major events and figures in Holly Springs and Marshall County’s history that are not often included in major publications, especially about the historical Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum.• Not only is she the founder and Curator of the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum; she is a Holly Springs Native; a Past Columnist for The South Reporter (Religious News); an Artist and an Author of 2 other Books (a documentary about the struggles and the establishment of women ministers in the CME church; and authored Climbing To The Pulpit- The Stories of Female Clergy from Marshall County, Mississippi.The second book entails A Walk Through The Museum.Rev. Harris was born in Marshall County, Mississippi, grew up in Holly Springs, MS and was educated in the public-school system. Her education included earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Chicago State University in Chicago, Illinois in 1980. She majored in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Anthropology. She later received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology from Elias Cottrell Theological Institute; attended Memphis Theology Seminary; was ordained as a Deacon and is an ordained Elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church.She has traveled extensively to West Africa and Europe including Ghana, Nigeria, and the Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania.She is a member of Yarbrough CME Church, helps as support personnel for Hudsonville CME Church in Holly Springs, Mississippi; and is a retired pastor after serving 19 years in the CME church.For additional information, contact Rev.
