The American Poolplayers Association (APA) is the world’s largest amateur pool league, founded in nineteen eighty-one by Terry Bell and Larry Hubbart. Their motto is “Everyone Can Play – Anyone Can Win!” and they run weekly recreational eight-ball and nine-ball leagues in bars and taverns.
	•	Size: Nearly two hundred fifty thousand members, with almost three hundred local leagues across the U.S., Canada, Japan, and Singapore.
	•	How it works: Teams play weekly. The Equalizer® handicapping system levels the field—your skill rating (based on games/points needed to win) lets beginners beat pros on paper, like in bowling or golf.
	•	Rules: Standard eight-ball and nine-ball formats, full details in the official APA Team Manual. Matches are team-based, points or games to win.
	•	Championships — The big ones feed from local leagues:
	◦	APA World Pool Championships (team): August fourth to fifteenth, twenty twenty-six at Westgate Las Vegas. Includes eight-ball and nine-ball worlds (prizes up to thirty thousand dollars for first in eight-ball). Modified single elimination—every team plays at least twice.
	◦	APA Poolplayer Championships (individual): April twenty-sixth to May second, twenty twenty-six at Westgate Las Vegas.
	◦	Others: U.S. Amateur (November twenty twenty-six), Masters, Jack & Jill, Ladies, Wheelchair, and more.
	•	How to join: Find your local league operator via poolplayers.com/locator, or sign up online at join.poolplayers.com. Fill out a membership app, pay dues, and you’re in.
