- **Event Name**: Small Pools, Big Impact: The Ecology of Vernal Pools
- **Event Start and End Date**: Wed, 29 Apr, 2026 at 04:00 pm – Wed, 29 Apr, 2026 at 06:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Join Ben Thyng, BBA’s Wildlife Research & Monitoring Coordinator, for an engaging introduction to vernal pool ecology.

Vernal pools are small, temporary woodland ponds that provide critical breeding habitat for frogs and salamanders and serve as important feeding grounds for many reptiles, birds, and mammals. In this program, participants will learn about the ecology of vernal pools, the wildlife that depend on them, the threats these habitats face, and conservation actions that can help protect them.

We’ll also explore the steps involved in documenting a vernal pool and share useful resources for landowners. The program will begin indoors with an overview of vernal pools, followed by a guided walk into the field to observe and explore these special habitats firsthand.

Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring water.
